Pacific Nations Cup

The IRB Pacific Nations Cup is an International round-robin competition comprising the test teams of Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Japan.  The Junior All Blacks - who in 2008 were replaced by the New Zealand Maori - and Australia A who participated in 2007 and 2008 have withdrawn from the competition.

Like the Pacific Rugby Cup, the IRB Pacific Nations Cup is a key component of the IRB’s £48m million Strategic Investment initiative and is designed to provide the Pacific Island Nations and Japan with regular high level competition.

The tournament structure for the 2011 IRB Pacific Nations Cup has been condensed with the three rounds being played over two weeks with the opening match, Japan v Samoa, being played in Tokyo on 2 July and the remainder of the Tournament being played in Fiji between 2 and 13 July 2011.  The entire Tournament will be played within the IRB's Southern Hemisphere Window enabling Unions to secure the services of their overseas-based players in preparation for RWC 2011.

2007 Champions: Junior All Blacks
2008 Champions: New Zealand Maori

Having had a mixed bag of results in the PRC, the men from Samoa went to the beach to reignite their form.

Scenes ranged from smiles and laughs, to running and smashing each other into the waves. After a win in their last match the tide seems to have changed for Savai’i, instead of taking the traditional rest day after a game, they reverted to the no pain no gain mode this morning in Nadi.

As the bus rolled up to the private coastal spot, the beast of men bounded onto the beach, minus their shirts. At first it was singing and stretching, everyone was jovial and the muscle men ran up the beach for a couple of k’s warm up.

Strutting their tattooed bodies in the hot sun, it soon turned to business, contact resumed and they all thrive in this department . Drills were adapted to make the body tired from the sand take offs and the men sunk themselves into everything. Showing little respect for their bodies, even the little men in the side chose to take the straight option and run into the man in front, sadly for some they picked men with a 1, 2 or 3 on their jerseys and they reversed their way down the beach.

While most tourists use the beaches of Fiji for more horizontal activities in deck chairs and hammocks, these boys ignored the picturesque backdrop & did the hard yards.

Fitness is also about fun, today they combined both and from the scenes today they are ready for a game in the final round of the PRC.
