Savai'i made it an excellent weekend for Samoa by coming from behind to beat Tonga's Tautahi Gold 18-14 for their second win of the campaign.

In the process they have put a massive dent in the hopes of the defending champions have of keeping their PRC trophy.

Savai'i lead-frog Tautahi Gold into third place in the Pacific Rugby Cup standings.

The Tongan side led 9-7 at the break after Fangatapu Apikotoa's three well-taken penalty goals were answered by Iosefa Taina's converted try on 35 minutes.

After the break the home side was more dominant. Pesamino Alauni added a three-pointer to his first half conversion kick to edge them in front and, although Jack Ram's try once again gave the visitors the lead, Sevens international Simaika Mikaele scored a fine try on 60 minutes, the last of the match.

The Tongan side pressured valiantly late on but Alauni scored a cool penalty on 80 minutes to seal the victory.
