Sydney will host the largest ever gathering of Pacific rugby personnel when 102 delegates from the 16 Member Unions of Oceania Rugby descend on Coogee on Monday May 18 for the inaugural Oceania Rugby Superweek.
Oceania Rugby is one of World Rugby’s regional associations and is responsible for the continued development of the Game in the Pacific region. The inaugural Oceania Rugby Superweek will comprise 10 separate workshops and meetings culminating with the AGM of Oceania Rugby on Friday 22 May.
The delivery of the Oceania Rugby Superweek is a direct outcome from the recently developed Oceania Rugby Strategy. It will ensure that key issues relating to the game in the Oceania Region are identified and discussed by key administrators, coaches and board members from the 16 Member Unions throughout the region.
The aim is to then create a suite of action initiatives that will assist in the continued roll out of targeted development programmes to drive the future growth of Rugby in the region.
“One of the priorities of the Oceania Rugby Strategy is for greater collaboration by all our Member Unions in growing the game of rugby and the Oceania Rugby Superweek is an important milestone in that process” said William Glenwright, World Rugby Regional General Manager, Asia & Oceania.
“Oceania is an important region and one with a membership and management that includes world leaders in all aspects of the game, be it Fifteens, Sevens, high performance structures and mass participation initiatives. The superweek concept has been designed to ensure all Member Unions can harness the expertise that exists in this region so that the region can continue to exploit its competitive advantage on the international stage and to ensure every person in Oceania has access to a positive rugby experience” he added.
In addition to the Annual General Meeting and the AGM workshop, the inaugural Oceania Rugby Superweek will comprise:
3rd Annual Development Conference – where Member Unions will discuss and further develop strategies around growing rugby
Inaugural Finance Management Meeting – a meeting of the CEOs and Finance Managers of the Tier 2 High Performance Unions to discuss the implementation of the Oceania Financial Improvement Strategy
Oceania Judicial Training workshop – part of the ongoing strategy to train Judicial Officers and Citing Commissioners in Pacific Island Member Unions to protect the integrity of domestic and international rugby competitions
Rugby World Cup 2015 Team Managers meeting – A training & information workshop to prepare the region’s Rugby World Cup 2015 Team Managers
Rugby World Cup 2015 Team Media Manager’s Workshop – a training and information workshop for the Team Media Managers at Rugby World Cup 2015.
