Claudia Valentine, former Board Member of Vanuatu Rugby Football Union and a passionate advocate for Women’s participation in all aspects of Rugby passed away this week following a short battle with cancer.
“It was with great sadness that we learnt of Claudey’s passing”, said Bruce Cook, Oceania Rugby’s General Manager, “Rugby throughout the region has lost a great friend and zealous supporter of the development of the game for all. Our thoughts and prayers are her family and friends at Vanuatu Rugby Football Union.”
Claudia a long-time fan of the game became involved in the administration of Rugby through her husband, past Vanuatu Rugby Football Union President Charles Valentine, first at club level and later with the National Union. Throughout this time, she held various positions and was integral to the recent growth of Get into Rugby in Vanuatu.
Most recently Claudia was involved with reintroducing Women’s Rugby development back into Vanuatu following a decline. She was passionate about the growth of Rugby in Vanuatu and eager to share experiences with regional neighbours in this quest. Claudia also served as the Team Manager to the Vanuatu 7s team.
She stepped down quietly from all duties at the beginning of January 2018 following her cancer diagnosis.
