Puk Puk’s ready to face the World Series

PNG Final training ahead of 2018 Sydney 7s

For the second year in a row the Papua New Guinea Puk Puk 7s team has spent the Christmas and New Year period preparing to join the top 15 Men’s 7s teams at the Sydney7s.


Having qualified at the 2017 Oceania Rugby Sevens Championships the team, which has a few new faces from the 2017 Sydney 7s combined with returning players like Arthur Clement and Patrick Tatut, is looking forward to the tough competition.


Coach Douglas Guise said “the pool we have been given will be a good challenge with 2016/17 HSBC World Series Champions South Africa and Runners Up England as well as Spain.” adding the boys have prepared well as they needed to before playing the best in the world, if they aren’t ready we shouldn’t be here”


The PNG Puk Puks join regional series core teams Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Samoa at this weekend Sydney 7’s and next weekend’s Hamilton 7s, whilst the Palais join Australia, Fiji and New Zealand at the Sydney 7s.


Rookie Naina Baleca is looking to making her series debut with the Fijiana this weekend following her promotion to the squad after an impressive performance at in Suva at the 2017 Oceania Sevens.
