FRU re-appoint Tavanavanua as CEO

The Fiji Rugby Union announced Tuesday the re-appointment of Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua as chief executive officer for a further three year-term ending 2011.

Ratu Timoci first took up the position of acting CEO of FRU in June 2005 when Pio Bosco Tikoisuva resigned and he was confirmed on 16 December 2005.

“I am pleased to announce the reappointment of Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua as CEO,” FRU Board chairman Keni Dakuidreketi said. “The decision was made after a Board meeting Monday.”

“We are very pleased that he is willing to continue in this capacity, as it represents a major sacrifice of his time and energy.”

Since he was brought in three years ago, Dakuidreketi added, Ratu Timoci with the support of the Board has helped turn around the finances of the FRU by bringing in more sponsors, and not only that set up and running the High Performance Unit as well as the Rugby Development Unit and the most notable being the quarter-final finish at the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.

“The term will be for another three years heading towards the World Cup in 2011 in New Zealand,” Dakuidreketi said. “The board believes as we look forward to another spectacle finish in New Zealand in 2011 it is important that we have a unified team moving forward. We look forward to working with him for the next term.”

Timoci expressed his pleasure at his re-appointment. “I look forward to serving as CEO for a further three years. This is a particularly exciting time for the FRU.”

“The last three years has been a period of great change at the Rugby House which continues to strive improved its performance and its delivery of results. We have a focussed management and committed staff. I look forward to continuing to work with them, the members of the Board and all member Unions to build further on what has been achieved and can be achieved going forward. "
