Taranaki have contracted Samoan rugby international hooker Mahonri Schwalger for the rest of the national provincial championship.

Former Hurricanes rake Schwalger, 31, replaces Laurence Corlett, who broke his arm during the win over Bay of Plenty last week.

Great form in the PNC has projected Schwalger, and the timing will be perfect for the Manu Samoa captain to play in New Zealand ahead of next years RWC on the same track.

Schwalger who has played the past four years in Britain for Llanelli Scarletts and Sale Sharks, is due to join the Taranaki squad in Dunedin tomorrow night ahead of the match against Otago but won't be considered to play that game.
