Seven Rugby World Cup- World champs Fiji rearing to defend their title.
Being the world champion is no easy feat; in fact people attempt it in things like eating 792 spiders & all sorts of silliness to have their name on top of the world. In rugby Sevens Fiji have their name there right now after an epic performance in Hong Kong 4 years ago, they are back to defend this loved prize in Dubai and their squad is buzzing at the prospect.
Being on top of the world has a mass of perks, firstly everywhere in Fiji they are national heroes, apart from Vijay Singh these Flying Fijian’s are the only World beaters and their homeland adore them for it. Reflecting back on this reign on top, the Fiji team has been a bit thin on victories since. But in the scale of things it is the ultimate trophy everyone really wants and this will be on their minds for sure, if they retain the Melrose Cup they will make history as the first team to do so. They will also ensure a flow of happiness in the 322 Islands that make up Fiji.
The down side of being on top is that there are a load of people looking at knocking you off. Right now Fiji has a fierce bunch of super fit men eyeing them up in the world’s biggest sandpit-Dubai. In the desert springs up an oasis of opulence, high-rise fairytale buildings and the finest of the finest of anything you can ever imagine. Now the players won’t get much of a chance top see all this, but they will be living in rooms probably bigger than their own house, and sleeping in the softest linen & bed they could ever have imagined. 5 star will be all over them in this place & the purpose build Emirates stadium is waiting for them to shine bright.
For today we will look at the champs Fiji, in the coming days the net will be widened to see the best of Oceania as they battles for the status of the best.
Fiji has a blend of new & sensational stars, coach Tunivula has at his disposal a machine that is made for Sevens, I am sure he knows how to use it. He is a quiet man and very calculated, but in this sort of competition with rivals like Gordon Titchen you better be. Over the past 2 legs of the IRB World Series the new Fiji boys have learnt a lot, in their eyes is desperation to achieve & I get the sense that they are ready and have learnt a lot so far. Now idols and heroes do a lot for a young persons confidence and chucking a man rocket like Filimoni Delisau in with these lads will propel them as well, Island people work on brotherhood and injections like Del’s will do wonders.
For the Kai Viti’s (Fijians) it is time to draw a line of supremacy in the sand, their biggest test is around the corner and right here we will bring you the action bounce by bounce, tackle by tackle.
