Oceania Sevens - Samoa to face Australia in the final
Samoa have survived a scare from Papua New Guinea to book a place in the final of the Oceania Sevens where they will face Australia who defeated Tonga in the second Semi final.
A much improved PNG team have impressed all tournament and the 3rd/4th playoff between them and Tonga is going to be a huge game. Samoa had to draw on every bit of their considerable experience to prevail 17-10 over a fast and physical PNG outfit 3 tries to 2.
Australia also had a tough semi final against Tonga in a physical game - eventually running out 24-5 winners.
Similarly, the 5th/6th playoff between Niue and Cook Islands is a crucial game - with the winner of that game qualifying for the Wellington and Adelaide Legs of the IRB Sevens World Series.
Niue defeated Tahiti 26-5 to progress to the 5th/6th playoff while Cook Islands defeated Vanuatu 33-7.
The line-up for the finals is therefore:
7th/8th Playoff: Vanuatu v Tahiti
5th/6th Playoff: Niue v Cook Islands
3rd/4th playoff: PNG v Tonga
Final: Australia v Samoa
