Australia to do Battle with World Series Leaders on Day One at International Rugby Sevens Adelaide

Australia will headline the opening night at the International Rugby Sevens Adelaide when they take on IRB Sevens World Series leaders England in a Pool A match to close out the action on Friday, 3 April.

 

The Adelaide tournament has adopted a new-look three-day format, with preliminary matches on Friday night and all day Saturday before moving into the finals on Sunday, 5 April.

 

The first game, to kick off at 5.30pm on the Friday, will feature IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens semi-finalists Kenya against Japan.

 

South Africa, the titleholders from last year’s Adelaide tournament, will follow with a match against the Cook Islands – followed by USA against Tonga and New Zealand up against newly-crowned Rugby World Cup Sevens champions Wales.

 

The other four Friday night matches are:

Fiji v Scotland

Argentina v France

Samoa v Portugal

Australia v England

 

The pools for the event, announced yesterday, are as follows:

 

POOL A: England, Samoa, Australia, Portugal

POOL B Argentina, Fiji, France, Scotland

POOL C: New Zealand, USA, Wales, Tonga

POOL D: South Africa, Kenya, Japan, Cook Islands
