Fiji wearing a new strip of blue in their jersey continue to be on fire in the Oceania under 19s championship in Lautoka, Fiji. Playing the men from Tahiti it was all Fiji today, the Island boys got things together and passes, side steps and extreme pace were employed to run the Tahitians ragged.
When Fiji hits its straps the first evidence is the grin, this grin turns bigger as the game goes on and everything in their game just gets better and better as long as they are enjoying themselves. In the baking hot sun today they were very happy and ran in 15 tries just to show how happy they really were. This effort was loudly accepted by the dancing and singing crowd at the park who lapped up the rugby feast.
Tahiti did a lot of running and defending today, it is hard when you lose by nearly 100, but they did show areas of promise and they were against a team on top of their game today. Their number 6 is no giant, but he was all over the pitch and put in a massive tackle count, even at the end he was still chasing when the chasing was getting very repetitive heading back to their goal posts again.
The Tahitian's have flair and pace, at this level they just can't keep the ball long enough to use it.They now will lick their wounds, enjoy some more village life in Fiji and be back at it again on Tuesday against
Iosefo Bele (Fiji coach): said “We wanted to test out some moves we didn’t use in our first game against Samoa. I told the boys it was not about winning but doing those things right as this was a build-up to our game against Tonga in our final FORU match. We also tried to test players in other positions, other than that they specialise in and I think it worked out well for us."
