Papua New Guinea have won the 2008 Oceania Sevens Plate with a 19-12 victory over Solomon Islands.

PNG qualified for the Plate Final with an impressive 24-0 win over Tahiti in the first game of Day 2. Jack Mahara scored a double along with tries to Daniel Siaguru, Jeffrey Vineval and Solomon Joseph.

Solomon Islands had a harder time in the second Plate semi-final - battling to a 22-14 victory over Vanuatu. Leon Hatigeva scored a double for the Solomons along with tries to Harris Giusaga and Vincent Kamux. Koko Kalsal and Anro Kalpukai scored for Vanuatu.

In the 7th/8th play-off, Vanuatu finished their tournament off on a high with a 24-0 win over Tahiti. Tries to Koko Kalsal, Anro Kalpukai, Romiti Usamoli and James Kalsam.

The final between Solomon Islands and PNG lived up to its expectation with both teams delighting the large crowd with thrilling display of Sevens Rugby. With scores locked at 12-all at half time, PNG scored the only try of the second half to land a 19-12 victory.
