Kade Poki's try helped New Zealand to a 13-3 lead at half-time in front of a crowd of nearly 10,000, before displays of free-flowing rugby resulted in further tries for Jackson Willison, Andre Taylor and Ryan Crotty after the break.

England, the Under 20 Six Nations Grand Slam winners, were unbeaten in nine matches in 2008 but found New Zealand relentless in defence and attack with an Alex Goode penalty their only score.

In the precursor to the final, South Africa finished the tournament on a high with a seven-try, 43-18 defeat of host nation Wales in the third place play-off in Swansea.

Australia finished fifth after racing into a 30-0 half-time and then withstanding a second half fightback from France to triumph 42-21 at Cardiff Arms Park.

Seventh place was claimed by Samoa, four second half tries securing a 30-10 victory over Argentina in Newport. Ireland overcame Scotland 39-12 in the ninth place play-off and Italy beat Canada 33-10 to finish 11th.
