7,000 fans sat in the sun and were eagerly awaiting a fierce rugby game at the North Sydney Oval, Sydney today. What they got was over a point a minute rugby as Australia A literally posted a cricket score in today’s match against Tonga. Open running; great support play and 14 tries were dished out by the home side that suddenly hit rhythm in the Pacific Nations Cup.

Australia were definitely alive today, they were dormant last weekend and everyone came out to play today. The lineouts and set pieces were the starters and the open territory and unbelievable unloads in the tackle were the main course and tries galore were desert for the crowd. Timana Tahu caused absolute havoc at number 12; he busted through numerous tackles all day and used his league skills to unload some utter gems of passes for the hungry backs. Everyone in the Aussie side was in tune and the passing and linking with support runners was a dream today, popping up at very regular intervals was Stephen Hoiles and he topped a tremendous day off with 4 tries.

At times the Australians were playing overly open play, running in try after try even from the kick off’s. This freedom was brutally halted at times as a Tongan slab of pride sunk itself into the runner, Tonga were not really in this match at all apart from these odd hits of steel.

The home side did entertain today, in the end it was too much talent and a heap of enthusiasm that just kept growing as the match went on. The good thing for the Aussie’s was that they kept the heat on and kept going for the kill time and time again, this will put them in good spirit for the coming 2 weeks. Now they are on top of the table well and truly and it is time for others to chase them.
