PRC- Tautahi team play for 1 girls heart.
The Tautahi Gold’s played all year on heart & for another heart, that of a 15 year old girl Tae Kami. The Gold’s had a massive battle in the PRC and their whole campaign win was dedicated to this little girl fighting a tougher battle with cancer.
Team Tautahi squad arrived back on Tongan soil fresh from their win in Samoa and went straight to see Tae Kami at her home. She heard some noises outside and the whole team was there to present her the winner’s medal. Tae’s family said “What an amazing moment for us all that were here & thank you for honoring Tae in such a special way” For the entire day Tae the beat of the Golds team proudly wore her medal.
Celebrations in Tonga were big and they linked with their brother team the Reds to have a function. While there Gold’s captain Fangatapu 'Apikotoa shared thoughts of the overall tournament. "Its has been a marvelous year for the Tautahi we started of with a loss and now we did it, ha! ha! We are the Champion.” “We played with our heart and we did what has been told from the coaches, that’s what I believe is the reason we beat Upolu.”
“As you know in Pacific rugby it's really hard for a team to win away games like we did in Samoa. It was a great great bonus getting Nili in for the second round of the tournament. He has been a problem to all our rivals and not only that but that he was really helpful with our defence."
"I just wanna thank all our Coaches and the management for making it all for the players and now they have seen the outcome of being in a good management. Malo to all our supporters here in Tonga and not forgetting our Tongan Community in Samoa for all the great support in the final. Last but not the least thanks to all the Tautahi players you have been the best out of all this year. This is not just the end of playing rugby, but go out there and show Tongan’s are really a true champion not only on the field, but anywhere."
