Samoa Rugby Union Media Release:

Samoa A's official campaign for the IRB Pacific Rugby Cup title kicked off with a well deserved win over the Brumby Runners on Friday at Canberra Stadium, Australia.

The full time score of Samoa A 30 to Brumby Runners 24 is a boost to the boys' confidence at the Tournament starts.

Speaking from Australia, Head Coach Fepuleai Selefuti Patu is pleased with the result adding it was a very physical contest and the boys fronted up well. "The boys played their hearts out, the last two warm up games gave us an excellent opportunity and final assessment of our players."

Fepuleai says there were areas that they identified as being the main weaknesses from their trial matches which they have improved during their match against the Brumby Runners.  "We improved a lot on the set pieces, our forward pack was awarded with two tight heads and also counters the opposition's rolling maul, and we beat them in the physical contact area."

The momentum build up for the boys furthered, with the boot of Titi Esau kicking 5 penalities, 1 from Patrick Faapale and tries from Meki Magele and Suamalie Tuiletufuga.

"We are not going to dwell on with the win, we have just started and we would like to keep on with the momentum for the remaining matches."

Samoa A's next opponent will be against the Junior Waratahs on 1 March.
