Tickets on sale for Sevens Series opener

Tickets have gone on sale for Round 1 of the 2011/12 HSBC Sevens World Series, the inaugural Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch tournament in Australia.

From 09:00 on 18 October fans have been able to secure their tickets to two days of fast, fun and exciting International Rugby Sevens from the ticketek website, www.ticketek.com.au.

Tickets are also sale for the second round, in Dubai, and sold out for the fourth round in Wellington, New Zealand in a matter of minutes.

ARU General Manager of Sevens, Peter Friend and Minister for Sport, Phil Reeves reminded people to get in quick to ensure they don’t miss out on the two day event, which runs on 25-26 November.

“Queenslanders love their Rugby and we’re well and truly cementing our status as Australia’s true Rugby heartland and reinforcing our reputation as the events state and the champions state,” Minister Reeves said. 

“Hosting an international event of this calibre supports our bid effort for the 2018 Commonwealth Games and will deliver a major boost to the Gold Coast tourism industry by drawing crowds from interstate and overseas.

“I encourage Rugby fans heading to the Gold Coast for the event to make the most of it and join in the Festival of Rugby, an eight-day celebration turning the Gold Coast into ‘Rugby Central’, in the lead up to Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch.”

ARU General Manager of Sevens, Peter Friend, said the excitement for the opening round of the HSBC Sevens World Series 2011/12 was impressive.

“There is a real buzz of excitement around Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch and I have no doubt that tickets will be snapped up quite quickly,” Friend said.

“There is still plenty of work to do before we reach kick-off and the team at ARU are continuing to work closely with Events Queensland to ensure the inaugural two-day tournament excites both on and off the field.

“We have already announced a number of non-Rugby related entertainment for the tournament including DJs, un-fashionables on the field, live music and a range of food and drink stalls and there is plenty more still to come."

Gold Coast City Mayor Ron Clarke said Gold Coasters were passionate about their sport and the Sevens tournament was a not-to-be-missed event.
 
"Securing the Sevens was a real coup for the Gold Coast which already has a well-earned reputation as a major events city,” Clarke said.

“With the outstanding performance of the Queensland Reds last season, and the current World Cup campaign by the Wallabies, the community's passion for Rugby is riding high and the Sevens will no doubt be an extremely popular ongoing event here on the Gold Coast.
