Nadroga favourites for Digicel Cup Final

Sponsors Digicel held a media conference today to introduce the two teams contesting the 2010 Digicel Cup Final – defending champions Nadroga and Naitasiri. 

Speaking on behalf of the defending champions captain and Lakeba native Tiko Matawalu revealed his side wasn’t getting too carried away by their form, despite their six try demolition of Lautoka last Saturday. 

“We’re not looking back but looking forward to the challenge ahead and Naitasiri is not going to be an easy nut to crack at all,” Matawalu said. 

Despite finishing unbeaten on top of the table and seeing off a Suva side laced with national reps Naitasiri captain Senivalati Vunibola believes his team will start as underdogs against the perennial champions of provincial rugby. 

“No one can start favourites against Nadroga because whenever Nadroga play you always expect them to win, it’s just the way it is,” Vunibola said. 

Naitasiri will be looking to seek some measure of revenge after their humiliating capitulation in their Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy defense last October when the Stallions thrashed the HIghlanders 31-6 at a jam-packed Ratu Cakobau Park. 

“It was a tough day at the office then and I think we can expect it to be even tougher this Saturday, it’ll be an enormous task to end the Digicel Cup unbeaten, all I can ask is that the boys give their best and the fans come down and to give us their support,” Vunibola added. 

Kick off for the Digicel Cup final on Saturday is 3:30PM and tickets are on sale at epay booths throughout Nadi, Sigatoka, Suva and Nausori. 

Adding spice to the event will be the fact the U20 final will also be between the same two teams – Nadroga and Naitasiri.
