PRC 2010- Warriors and Barbarians squads named.
Fiji is bracing itself for torrid match to kick start the Pacific Rugby Cup, teams have been named for the opening encounter at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka and all eyes are ready for action. The Warriors and Barbarian squads show a mixture of raw, experienced and Sevens stars making the grade.
Regular names like Alefoso Yalayalatabua, Anthony Wise & Taniela Rawaqa show consistency in both selection and form by the players, casting your eye wider over the names it is a smaller 77kg man that sparks the most interest, that is nippy Sevens sensation Emosi Vucago.
Over the past 2 years he has been a regular on the IRB World Sevens circuit, he has rattled up points and showed his worth on the international stage & showed great leadership captaining his nation. Named on the bench for the Barbarians he will start the assault on his dream to play in next years RWC in New Zealand. Way back on 2006 he got his 15's test cap, but since then he has not had another run for the Flying Fijians. He has gone back to the flamboyant game of Sevens, he has found his form and will be wanting to make a statement in 15's starting with the PRC.
This match will be in Nadroga, the strength capital of Fiji Rugby over many years, it is his home pitch and the local crowd will be turning out in numbers to see their boy Vucago shine.
The Fiji Warriors are the reigning champions, they will want to start the defence well and the younger Barbarians team will be dead set on spoiling their party. Both Fijian teams have been training hard, they have been running up the famous Sigatoka sand dunes and will be desperate to begin 2010 with a win.
Things will not get any easier with the best of Tonga and Samoa jetting into the country for the next round, already a win is needed if they have any chance to progress to the business end.
