Oceania under 19s- Tonga start with a strong win
Playing with plenty of power and confidence Tonga are off to a great start in the Oceania under 19s dispatching Vanuatu 76-5.
The Tongans are big men and they know it, it is even more so on a rugby field when their opponents start missing a few tackles, these big fellas just seem to get bigger and faster. Using their excess power to full advantage the Tongan team ran riot with Vanuatu today in Nadi, Fiji. They ran hard, held up patiently in the tackle, as you do when you weigh over 100 kg and delivered some fine passes to keep the ball alive.
The win was started in the forwards and in the end all the forwards were like backs, numbers 4,6 & 8 all chimed in with some cameo runs with the ball in hand and gassed some backs in the process.
Vanuatu played with spirit, they are not shy, they are just out weighed and after 10 or so tackles in a row rugby starts to wear you down. They had limited opportunities and under intense pressure when they did have them we did not get to see the speed and attacking strengths they possess today. Their efforts never stopped though and the reward was a fine try in the dying moments to kick start their beginnings for the next few matches.
At half time she was looking like a severe cricket job today, Tonga was rushing everything and trying for the easy try. Vanuatu tackled and tackled some more and made Tonga earn every point in the second half.
Tonga will be happy with the win, their patterns started to show and in the coming 9 days they will get more and more dangerous.
